artist's profile
While stationed in the Phillipines, Ed met a Filipino artist with whom he studied for 18 months. It was there he learned the art of stippling. Upon return to the states, Ed enrolled at the Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD). After graduation, Ed worked in the Columbus area with local advertising agencies. He settled down with one of the finest creative agencies in Columus called GSW (Gerbig, Snell/Weisheimer and Associates). Ed retired from GSW after 35 years of working with very talented and creative people.
When Ed began painting, it was of seascapes and landscapes. His paintings were realistic in nature. After several years of working in this way,Ed discovered a contemporary artist and became curious about how he built-up texture. When Ed began to experiment with materials like sand, tissue paper, and modeling paste he found it to be fulfilling. Ed's work became more and more abstract as he continued to experiment.
Ed remains intrigued and satisfied when he is building texture and adding paint. Ed enjoys the contrasts he can create.
This "unplanned" approach has generated some very abstract work and has allowed Ed to enjoy the process.
